Eve Dobel (b.1999) is a fine artist from and based in London.
Her practice explores the embodied physicality of emotion and the interconnected relationship between mind and body through self-portraiture and the human form. The work offers an introspective, yet at times, intrusive look into the individual. While rooted in personal experiences and perspectives, it seeks to create a space for viewers to recognise aspects of themselves within it.
Working primarily with oil paint, Eve uses a naturalistic, fleshy, earth-toned palette alongside a representational style. This approach is intentional, aiming to maintain a level of realism that stays faithful to her ongoing exploration of building a grounded mind-body connection.
Her process begins with intuitive underpainting, gradually developed through thin layers of oil in a process of concealment and light abstraction. Through the use of chiaroscuro and contrasting application styles, the work aims to create visual tension, attempting to articulate human physiological responses to emotion, whilst aiding personal narratives embedded beneath the surface.
